General

Headington School is a boarding and day school for girls, with a senior department catering for those aged 11–18, and Headington Preparatory, a feeder school, for those aged 3–11. The school motto is 'AΓΩNIZOY TON KAΛON AΓΩNA THΣ ΠIΣTEΩΣ', a quotation (in Koine Greek) from 1 Timothy 6.12, meaning 'Fight the Good Fight of Faith'. 'Fight the Good Fight' is also the school song. Around 1000 girls attend both schools and it is top in the country for A level I.C.T. The International Baccalaureate has been offered alongside A Levels since September 2009.[1]

The Good Schools Guide called Headington "A delightful school, [which] nurtures and entertains its pupils while at the same time achieving excellent academic results. [It is] fun and stimulating to be at."[2]

Each girl is placed into a competitive school house when she joins the school. Houses participate in a variety of termly competitions such as House Drama, Music and Quiz. There are eight competitive houses; Blenheim, Cherwell, Ford, Isis, Latimer, Oxon, Ridley, Windrush.

Facilities

The school has embarked on a series of building projects in the past fifteen years, beginning with the Art Department, the professional-standard Theatre at Headington (2002), Napier Boarding House (2003), a large Dining Room (2005), and most recently the new Music School, which opened in 2009.[3] These complement the original neo-Georgian senior school building constructed in the 1930s.

Headington offers boarding for students who may choose whether or not they wish to board. The boarding option is a flexible one, and girls may simply try it out for a few days or board all year during the academic year. There are four boarding houses; Celia Marsh, Napier, Hillstow, Davenport. There is a committed team of Matrons and Housemistresses all of whom work to ensure a comfortable living environment for the boarders.
